Apartment viewing checklist: what listing photos do not tell you
Use this apartment viewing checklist to inspect the unit, building, move-in terms and daily-life details before you apply.

Check the unit, not just the room
Turn on faucets, open windows, test locks, look around cabinets and ask what stays in the apartment. Check mobile reception where you would actually work or sleep. Photos can make rooms look larger and hide noise, weak water pressure or poor light.
If possible, revisit at a different time of day. A quiet weekday afternoon does not tell you what the street, neighbors or building entrance feel like at night.
Ask about daily operations
Ask how heat, hot water, packages, trash, laundry, repairs and building access work. Get the actual move-in process: elevator reservations, required insurance, permitted move times and any building fees.
Write answers down immediately after the viewing. Good apartments blur together quickly.
Do not pay to reserve a visit
A viewing is not an application approval. Verify who you are meeting, confirm the address, and do not send money just to see a unit.
